Elon Musk’s Cybertruck, a distinctive-looking truck that is all angles and unpainted stainless steel, aims to rethink the traditional American pickup.
The upcoming months will test whether he can carry out that goal and deliver the company’s first brand-new passenger vehicle in more than three years, with Tesla set to introduce the truck by the end of the year.
For years, Musk has been extolling the truck. He marketed the vehicle as a “badass, futuristic armored personnel carrier” that accelerates like a sports car and is loaded with new technology, referring to it as the company’s “best product ever” and calling it futuristic.
Musk said in April that Tesla would start making the new pickups available in limited quantities by the end of September. In 2024, the output is anticipated to rise.

But on the most recent discussion the business had with Wall Street investors, Musk dodged a query about costs and delivery times. Instead, he stated that this year would see deliveries. He also reiterated earlier cautions that starting production of a new vehicle can be challenging.
Musk stated last month that “the production ramp will move as quickly as the slowest and least fortunate elements of the entire supply chain and internal production.”
The debut of the Model 3 sedan some years ago, which Musk has referred to as “production hell” and which almost led to the company’s demise, has been a challenge for Tesla in terms of ramping up production of new models.

The Cybertruck, which was once projected to launch in 2021, had difficulties almost immediately after its debut in November 2019.
