Xiaomi 15 Series Could Feature an In-Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor

Xiaomi 15 Series Could Feature an In-Display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Sensor: There are several significant developments that the Xiaomi 15 may provide users over its predecessor. The upcoming Xiaomi flagship series, which is expected to include the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Xiaomi 15 Pro, and vanilla Xiaomi 15, may use an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor instead of the optical fingerprint scanner of the previous model. In a post on the recent development, Tipster Digital Chat Station stated that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is developing new fingerprint scanning technology (via GizmoChina). With this change, the Xiaomi 15 series will feature an in-display ultrasonic sensor from the firm. The source further stated that the company may employ Goodix’s ultrasonic fingerprint identification technology, which is thought to be less expensive than Qualcomm’s comparable sensors.

Humans cannot hear the ultrasonic pulse of sound waves transmitted by ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. The sound waves hit the finger and bounce back with the data they have gathered. It recognizes the user by comparing the arrangement of ridges and the gaps between them. It has various advantages over optical fingerprint sensors. Wet or oily fingers can also be effortlessly scanned by the sensor, which performs three-dimensional fingerprint scanning. In addition, it is a more secure form of fingerprint scanning than the optical method. Interestingly, only a select few high-end smartphones—like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series—use this technology.

Given that the Xiaomi 14 series made its debut in China in the same month of the previous year, the Xiaomi 15 series may be among the first smartphones to run the processor when it is unveiled in October 2024.
